1999's GEL-KAYANO 5 OG running shoe returns with its original construction. After an initial sketch on paper, designer Toshikazu Kayano was quick to point out that the upper mirrored the human anatomy's bone structuring, organs and muscles. Formed with a mesh and suede construction, this shoe introduced two crucial improvements to the model’s lineage - the teardrop tongue and Quadra lacing system. Working in unison with each other, these technologies create an improved fit with better midfoot support. The GEL-KAYANO 5 OG running shoe is injected with an enlarged GEL technology based cushioning pocket in the heel for pronounced comfort, while the layered application of componentry has become the foundation that still influences the shoe's design today.
